it all leads up to...

Christmas is over. Our house looks like a disaster area and both my boys are currently napping. I'm curled up on our over sized chair that Jeff and I frequently fight over. It's perfect for curling up and falling asleep in. That is probably what I should be doing, but I just wanted to reflect a little.

This last week has been a a whirlwind of friends, last minute shopping, snow, and family. Brody has not gone to bed on time since Saturday, neither have Jeff and I. I'm ready to fall back into our routine. But I must admit,  the busyness has been fun. We started out with a fun filled, kids playing (loudly), biggest group playing apples to apples Saturday night! It's amazing how quickly 5 kids can make carpet disappear in toys and giggles. We much savvier adults buried the kitchen counter and table in food and drinks. It was a special night because Candace and her family came up to spend the evening with us! Perfect. Something about your house being filled with friends, laughter and food warms the heart. Even if it meant being crammed around the table finding anything extra to sit on! It always works out and leaves you full of joy. Brody was surrounded by girls, but I don't think he minded a bit. He's already a little flirt.

Unfortunately for Jeff, it started snowing at 3 in the morning meaning he had to get up and start working on snow removal. Unfortunately for me that meant pushing back our shopping trip to finish last minute presents. It was a pajama day for Brody and I.

Monday we finally got out the door in the afternoon after Jeff had time to catch up on sleep. Our "quick" trip took 4 1/2 hours and a cranky toddler up past his bed time and hungry. It's only natural that we stay up wrapping presents and get hooked on Alvin and the Chipmunks. I mean it's such an amazing movie and all that staying up 'til one is what anyone would do in order to see the end. What can I say, sometimes you just get sucked in.

In our minds we had Tuesday planned our perfectly giving us time to relax, eat breakfast as a family, make it to my Gramma's house and then Jeff's parents earlier then 3. Realistically…Jeff scrambled out the door while I made breakfast for Brody so he could finish some work stuff up. An hour job turned into 2 1/2 putting us an hour late getting to Laurel so Brody could see his GG. He opened his first Christmas presents there and it was the  most involved he was the whole holiday with opening presents.

We waited until Christmas Eve to put our presents, Brody was pretty fascinated
After saying our goodbyes we were finally on our way to Jeff's parents house. As per usual with Jeff and I we got distracted on the way when we drove by a new subdivision that we both fell in love with on sight. We ended up driving through it picking out which lot we should build on and taking down phone numbers on who to call. Probably something that could've waited but holidays make you dream big and that we did. Once we got to Jeff's parents house Brody wasted no time running around making noise and playing with his cousin Maddie. We ate until we were full, bundled up and got out the door to go to church. Of course, we all had intended on getting there early enough to get seats so we could all sit together. Everyone else planned on that too so we were not early enough. Jeff, Brody and I sat in front of Jeff's family in the VERY FRONT of the church. Brody was running on one interrupted nap from the morning and was not thrilled to be confined to church pews .I think it worked well that we had Jeff's parents behind us because it gave Brody someone to talk to and make faces at. And a distracted toddler is a happy toddler. When he started to get antsy we bribed him with cheerios. It started going downhill after him and Maddie started digging into the bag dumping them all over the pew and floor. It was the longest hour ever. I don't handle screaming in public Brody very well. I was sweating like a pig. Being outside in the cold afterward was sweet relief. The real fun was when we got back to Jeff's parents house for presents!
Tired boy. We didn't think he'd last much longer.

He found the energy to open this...
…and couldn't wait for dad to get it out for play

Since he saw Dad using the screw driver to get it out, he had to use it too.

He got his own broom/mop set because he loves to help mom clean

I think it's bed time
